Dear Orcutt Staff and Community,

This evening our Board of Trustees took action to approve three management level positions for our school district.  These include the Director of Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation (MOT); Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources; and Executive Director of Special Education.  It is my pleasure to announce and congratulate each appointee.

Accepting the appointment as Director of MOT is Mr. Brad Gitchell.  Mr. Gitchell has worked for our district for 27 years in the positions of grounds maintenance worker, maintenance worker, and operations supervisor.  He is anxious to begin his new assignment and work on his vision of creating an MOT Department in the Orcutt Union School District which is highly respected for their commitment to service and meeting the needs of our schools.

Mrs. Susan Salucci, current principal of Pine Grove Elementary School, will assume the position of Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.  This is Mrs. Salucci’s seventh year in the Orcutt Union School District where she has served as both a junior high and elementary principal.  Prior to coming to Orcutt, she served as a teacher and assistant principal in the Lompoc Unified School District.  In addition to her job assignments, Susan has also participated in the Association of California School Administrators’ Business and Personnel Academies.  Like Brad, she is anxious to assume her new role.

A position created through the reorganization of our Special Education Department, the Executive Director of Special Education, will be filled by Ms. Janet Bertoldi.  Ms. Bertoldi has worked in the Orcutt Union School District for 34 years, serving as a teacher, vice principal, principal, and director of educational technology.  Her experience as a special day class teacher serving mild/moderate students and work with the team that started the inclusion program in our district particularly prepares her for this position.

In addition to the three positions mentioned above, I also want to announce that Ralph Dunlap Principal Liz Herbstreith has accepted a new position as a principal in the Franklin McKinley School District in San Jose, CA.  Mrs. Herbstreith has been a teacher and principal in Orcutt for the past 28 years.  While we are very sad to see her go, we appreciate that this is going to be the best for her.

Again, I would like to congratulate all of our managers.

Cordially,
Dr. Deborah Blow
Superintendent
Orcutt Union School District
