Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is the first year of a two-year developmental kindergarten program. It is designed to build a solid foundation for success in school for young five year olds. The program is funded by the Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010 that changed the kindergarten entry date in 2014/2015 to September 1st.
So what does Transitional Kindergarten look like? Think of it as a hybrid that combines the essential foundations of preschool with the California Common Core Standards for Kindergarten, nurturing each child’s intellectual and socio-emotional growth.
Children born between September 1, 2017, and February 2, 2018, may be enrolled in TK for the 2022-2023 school year.
TK is a half-day program with classes being held at either Joe Nightingale School in Orcutt or the district’s Los Alamos campus.
Our district welcomes all students who fall within the age eligibility for TK!
